Find your organizational frequency

Ten questions for founders and hiring leaders. Free.

In Organizational Frequency, Vinay Pasricha argues that every company carries a frequency, every person carries their own, and great performance happens when the two resonate. Most bad hires are not bad people. They are mismatched frequencies.

The book names four stages, understand, discover, validate and grow, each a posture the organisation adopts before any individual hire is made. This exercise uses those four names to help you notice which one your organisation most needs to work on.

A self-reflection exercise, not a scientific test. The questions were written for this page as a thinking aid; they are not taken from the book and are not a validated assessment. Your answers stay in your browser and are never stored or sent. Google Analytics stays off until you reach a result; then it counts which shareable Frequency Card was shown, downloaded or shared, never your answers or scores.

Answer for your organisation, as it is today

01Understand We could describe, in a few sentences, what kind of place this company is to work in: its pace, its posture, how decisions get made.
02Understand When we open a role, we start from what our environment needs, not from an old job description or a list of past titles.
03Understand Our leaders broadly agree on the kind of person who thrives here, and the kind who struggles.
04Discover The people we most want usually reach us because we went looking for them, not because they answered a job post.
05Discover In early conversations we spend more time learning about the person than selling the company to them.
06Validate Our interviews test how someone would actually work here, not how fluently they perform in an interview.
07Validate We treat a resume as a record of the past, not as proof of where someone will belong next.
08Validate Candidates get an honest picture of how we work, so they can judge the fit as well.
09Grow When a hire struggles, our first question is whether the environment fits, not whether the person is weak.
10Grow If our best people could choose their company again today, we are confident they would choose us.

Reflecting on your own career instead?

Organizational Frequency applies to people too: a person carries a frequency as well as a company. Find your frequency is the path for candidates.
