The argument of Collapse or Collapse
Collapse or Collapse is the argument that companies use AI to pave the cow paths. Factories that put electric motors where the steam engine stood saw no gain until they redesigned the floor. A business is a set of outcomes, not departments, so AI agents must be organised around end-to-end outcomes, and the department is no longer a viable unit.
The book is a Kindle edition. The subtitle is How AI Agents End the Department, the Manager and the Meeting. The chapters published on this site are the whole text.
Lines from the book
-
Describe any AI initiative in your company in one sentence, by saying what it makes faster. If your answer begins with the name of a department, you are paving.
Chapter 4, A Motor Where the Steam Engine Stood -
The gain came when the factory was rebuilt around the new machine.
Chapter 4, A Motor Where the Steam Engine Stood -
Give a department an agent and it will use the agent to improve the number it is measured by, which is the only rational thing for it to do.
Chapter 4, A Motor Where the Steam Engine Stood -
Machines hold the baseline; humans supply the peaks.
Chapter 10, The Twelve Tenets -
Organise around outcomes, not activities. Work that produces a result is an Outcome; work that serves a result is an agent.
Chapter 10, The Twelve Tenets -
Collapse your organisation now, or your organisation will collapse.
Chapter 21, A Letter to the World
Books
- Collapse or Collapse. How AI Agents End the Department, the Manager and the Meeting. Kindle only.
- AI for Business Leaders. AI does not fix chaos. It scales it. In hardcover.
- The SIV Method. Before power is applied, reality must be examined hard enough to deserve action.
- The Execution Doctrine. One constraint governs each cycle. Identify it. Strengthen it. Repeat.
- Organizational Frequency. Hiring is not convincing people to fit somewhere. It is discovering where they already belong.
- The Signal. What you cannot detect, you cannot think about.
- Civilization. Every civilization is moving in some direction. Most never learn to read the compass.
The shelf lists the six books. Kindle books lists the Kindle editions, including Collapse or Collapse.
Speaking
He writes and speaks on AI for business: what changes when software can do the work that departments were built to do. The subjects of the books are the subjects of the talks: AI, decisions, execution, hiring, attention, and where civilisation is headed.
He takes two or three engagements a quarter: keynotes, panels, leadership offsites, and AI strategy sessions. The choice is by topic and audience.
