CEO and MD pay at listed companies in India

What listed Indian companies disclosed as total remuneration for the CEO or Managing Director in FY2025-26. Every figure is a median from at least 10 annual reports. Survey figures are not on this page.

The unit is INR crore a year, total remuneration as disclosed. City means the company’s registered office, which is not always the head office. The method is the same one on the India Leadership Pay Benchmark.

Promoter and professional, indicative only

Some annual reports say whether the CEO or Managing Director is a promoter. Where they do, the medians differ. 48 reports do not say, and the middle-half ranges overlap, so this is not a rule to hire by.

GroupMedianP25–P75Companies
Professional CEO / MD₹6.1 crore₹1.09 crore–₹10.24 crore28
Promoter CEO / MD₹2.85 crore₹1.21 crore–₹8.56 crore45

How to read this

  • A median, not an offer. The middle of the companies in that group. The P25–P75 column is the middle half. Ranges are wide.
  • Not a survey. Deloitte, Michael Page and the other surveys sit on the benchmark in their own section. They measure different things. Do not average them with these medians.
  • No names. No company and no person is identified.
  • Checked. Each underlying value was checked against the annual-report page it came from. Values that failed the check are left out.

Questions

What do these figures measure?

Median total remuneration as disclosed in FY2025-26 annual reports, for the highest-paid person who held the CEO / Managing Director role for the full year. Totals may include commission, perquisites and the perquisite value of stock options where the company counts them. They are not survey figures, and they are not blended with surveys.

Why are some groups missing?

A group is published only when at least 10 companies disclosed a usable amount. Not published for this role: Revenue above ₹50,000 crore. No company name and no individual package is shown.

Are promoter CEOs paid less than professional CEOs?

Where the annual report says, professional CEOs and MDs had a median of ₹6.1 crore (n = 28) and promoter CEOs and MDs ₹2.85 crore (n = 45). Indicative only: 48 reports do not say either way, and the ranges overlap.
