How much does an AI agent cost in India?

Short answer: There is no honest single price. An AI agent bill in India is the model use, the work of connecting it to what the company already knows, a named person who checks the result, and the cost of a wrong action. Ask for those four lines. Do not accept one monthly number that hides them.

I'm Vinay Pasricha. I run GoodSpace AI in Noida, and I wrote AI for Business Leaders. Owners ask me for a rupee figure before they have named the job. I don't have one to give, and I will not invent one.

Why one number misleads

An agent is not a licence you switch on. In the book I describe five things AI actually does: it automates work, it supports a decision, it runs as an agent, it helps with drafts, and it stores memory. A product called an agent is only one of those five. The price depends on which one you bought, and on what it is allowed to do.

A demo that answers questions from a public page is a different purchase from an agent that raises a purchase order, replies to a customer, or moves a candidate forward. The second kind can spend money or make a promise. That risk is part of the cost even when it never appears on the invoice.

Vendors often quote a seat, a bundle of credits, or a monthly retainer. Those are ways of charging. They are not the cost of the job. A cheap retainer that needs two people to correct it every evening is not cheap. A larger retainer that removes a whole step, with a person still signing the result, can be the smaller bill. You only see that after the four lines are written down.

What to ask for, line by line

  • Model use: how the charge grows when the agent is used more, and what a busy month looks like.
  • Connection: who maps the agent to your prices, your policies and your past cases, and how many days that takes.
  • A person: who is named to approve the result before it leaves the company, and whether that time is in the quote.
  • Failure: what a wrong action costs, who pays, and how fast you can undo it.

The appendices of AI for Business Leaders include a vendor scorecard and a one-page pilot charter for this conversation. Use them as questions, not as a tariff. This site does not publish a rupee range for agents, so none is given here.

How a small company should buy

Start with one job you can see. A follow-up on open quotes. A first pass over supplier invoices. A draft reply that a person still sends. Give it a month and a number you already track: quotes sent, invoices checked, replies that did not need a rewrite. If the vendor will not say what happens when the agent is wrong, you are not buying an agent. You are buying a demo.

Do not compare an unsourced agent price with a CXO package. Published leadership pay, when you are weighing a hire beside this, is on the India Leadership Pay Benchmark. Those figures are survey medians and annual-report medians. They are not an agent price, and they should not be subtracted from one.

Keep the contract short enough to stop. A first agent that you cannot switch off in a month has already failed the test, whatever the quote said. Pay for the month you can see. Renew only if the number you chose moved in the direction you wanted, and a person can still explain every action the agent took.

One thing to do this week

Write the job in one sentence: what the agent may do, what it may not do, and who signs off. Send that sentence to anyone quoting you, and ask for the four lines above. Keep the answers. They are the cost.

Use the free Risk Ladder before the agent is allowed to act, and Automate, Assist, Escalate to sort the tasks around it. The eight steps are in AI strategy for business. Collapse or Collapse is the longer argument: one person owns one result and runs agents to deliver it.
